Untreated cavities, cracks, chips, or trauma to your teeth encourage harmful bacteria to enter the inside of your tooth (otherwise known as ‘dental pulp’), causing infection. Endodontics is a branch of dentistry concerned with treating this sensitive inner area, ridding it of infection.

We treat infected teeth with root canal treatment. Although it involves treating the inside of your tooth, it is often a painless procedure involving seven simple steps:

1. We will take x-rays of your teeth to examine the damage

2. We will administer a local anaesthetic to ensure you feel very comfortable throughout the procedure

3. We open your tooth up and remove the infected pulp from within

4. If you have a dental abscess, we will drain it 

5. Then we shape, clean and disinfect your root canals and fill them with a rubber-like material 

6. We then place final seal on the root filling material

7. We may place a crown (prosthetic tooth) on top to restore your natural smile
